Who are we?
Come and join us in our 43rd year for cross-country ski outings in various ski areas around Ottawa/Gatineau.
Women on Skis is a non-profit club run by a group of experienced volunteer skiers who raise funds for local women's health and social issues.
Our Aims
- To encourage women of various ski abilities to get out and enjoy winter, to network with others who have similar interests and to experience some of the best cross-country trails in Ottawa/Gatineau.
- As a non-profit program run by a group of experienced volunteer skiers, we raise funds for local women’s health and social issues. In recent years we have supported St. Joe’s Women’s Centre, Hospice Care Ottawa, Cornerstone, Eco Equitable, Sexual Assault Centre and Elizabeth Fry, Evelyn Horne Young Women’s Shelter of Youth Services of Ottawa.
Our Outings
We ski in small groups (5-15) of similar ski ability with a leader who will select trails and distance suitable for the group and, for larger groups, a sweep who makes sure no one is left behind.
Whether you are a cautious skier who prefers something flat and not so far, you want to go further and faster, or somewhere in between, we welcome you.
At all times, we will follow Public Health Guidelines and landowner safety regulations regarding any health or safely issues that may occur.
Please note: these outings are not instructional. We will give ski tips but if you are learning to ski we suggest learn to ski classes offered by various clubs and by the City of Ottawa Recreation at Terry Fox Athletic Facility on Riverside Drive. If you want a review of technique by video, we suggest this YouTube video which covers the basics quite well.
